A flooded forest hidden among the Apennine peaks The Lama Forest is located on the Romagna side of the Casentinesi Forests National Park , at over 700 meters above sea level, amid dense forests, silent ridges, and valleys shaped by water and time. It is one of the most remote and fascinating areas of the park: a plateau surrounded by ancient beech forests and silver firs , where biodiversity is rich and human impact has been minimal.
An experience between nature, history and silence
The Lama Forest is one of the most remote and fascinating places in the Casentinesi Forests National Park. Its vast plateau, surrounded by rugged mountains and covered in some of the most pristine forests in the Apennines, offers a landscape of extraordinary natural beauty.
It can only be reached on foot, by bicycle along a 20 km forest road that starts between Passo dei Mandrioli and Badia Prataglia, or – when operating – by electric boat on Lake Ridracoli or via the path that starts directly from the dam.
The most evocative route is the path that descends from the Passo dei Fangacci to the Fosso degli Scalandrini, crossing pristine environments.
At the center of the plateau stands the Casa Forestale della Lama, where you can also find benches and picnic tables.
Nearby is the Siemoni Arboretum , with native and exotic tree species for scientific purposes.
The area is home to deer, roe deer, wolves, and numerous bird species. It's the perfect place for those seeking peace, nature, and authenticity.
The area is also perfect for educational activities, nature observations, and themed trails. Its proximity to the Ridracoli Dam makes it possible to combine the visit with experiences that connect water, forest, and the Apennine landscape .
